Three-Days Online Training on Koha

Library Information Services (LIS) CUI Lahore organized a Three-Days online training on Koha: Integrated Library System for the library staff of COMSATS University Islamabad, Sahiwal Campus. The purpose of the training was to enhance professional skills related to library automation, cataloging, circulation, patron management, and Reports modules of Koha. The training was held on May 12-14, 2026 through Google Meet. The training sessions were conducted by experienced LIS CUI Lahore professionals, focusing on practical understanding and hands-on learning of Koha modules. Participants actively engaged in discussions and practical demonstrations throughout the training. The first training session focused on the Cataloging Module of Koha and was conducted by Jahanziab Imtiaz, Library Assistant of CUI Lahore Campus. During the session, the trainer comprehensively covered all major areas of cataloging in Koha, The trainer also demonstrated practical examples to help participants understand the workflow of cataloging operations in Koha. The second training session focused on the Patron Module and was conducted by Attiq ur Rehman, Assistant CUI Lahore Campus. The session covered various aspects of patron management in Koha. The trainer demonstrated practical methods for handling large patron datasets efficiently and explained how accurate patron records support effective library services. The third session focused on the Circulation Module and was conducted by Naveed Siddique, Assistant Librarian CUI Lahore Campus. The session covered both online and offline circulation procedures in Koha. Participants learned how Koha facilitates smooth circulation services and ensures continuity of operations during internet or system connectivity issues through offline circulation features. The final training session focused on the Reports Module and was conducted by Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq, Deputy Librarian. The session emphasized the generation and effective use of necessary reports in Koha. Participants gained practical understanding of how reports can support library administration, collection management, and strategic planning. The Three-Days online training session proved highly beneficial for the participants and significantly enhanced their understanding of Koha modules and workflows. The training also encouraged professional learning and promoted effective use of library automation tools in academic libraries. To conclude the session, Dr. Muhammad Tariq (Head of Library, CUI Lahore) thanked the presenters for providing professional training to the CUI Sahiwal staff. He noted that these sessions enhance human resource skills while creating valuable professional networking opportunities and strengthening institutional relations. Dr. Iqra (Head of Library, CUI Sahiwal) also extended her thanks to the presenters and the CUI Lahore library team for organizing the event.

Educational Visit to LIS, CUI Lahore

A group of students from the University of Education visited the Library Information Services (LIS), CUI Lahore on 23 April 2026. The visit aimed to consult a variety of books and research materials available in the university library for their academic assignments. During their visit, the students explored diverse academic resources and gained valuable insights to support their research work. Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Incharge Library, also briefed the students about the library resources and services and guided them in their research work. The visit proved to be a productive learning experience, promoting effective use of library resources for academic development.

Director Vitst CUI Lahore Library Director Dr. Muhammad Yar (CUI Lahore) visited the Main Library on April 2, 2026, along with departmental libraries, accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Incharge Library. During the visit, Dr. Tariq provided a comprehensive briefing on library resources, services, and various sections of the Main Library. The Director also toured different sections to review facilities and ongoing services. At the departmental level, briefings were presented by: • Ms. Nasira Munir (A&D Library) • Mr. Naveed Siddique (MS Library) • Mr. Atiq ur Rehman (Pharmacy Library) The visit concluded with a meeting with the library staff, where Director Dr. Muhammad Yar appreciated their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to delivering quality library services.

Orientation Session for Spring 2026 Students

The Library Information Services, CUI Lahore, warmly welcomed newly enrolled Spring 2026 students at the CUI Lahore campus. To mark this occasion, the library organized orientation sessions on Orientation Day, February 02,The primary objective of these sessions was to familiarize students with the library’s wide range of resources, services, facilities, as well as its rules and regulations. A large number of students attended the sessions with great enthusiasm, demonstrating keen interest in learning how the library can effectively support their academic journey. At the Main Library, Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq, Mr. Muhammad Asim and Ms. Raiqa Pervaiz briefed students on library rules, the membership process, available resources, and various services. On January 8, 2026, Dr. Tariq delivered a session on "AI for Medical Students" at Hayat Memorial Medical and Nursing College, Lahore. The session was attended by a large number of faculty members and medical students. The discussion focused on introducing AI, exploring its tools in medical practice, and addressing challenges in applying AI in academics and research. At the conclusion, the Principal and Chairman of the Board of Governors appreciated the organizers and presenters, presenting shields in recognition of their contributions. Ms Shamsa, the head librarian and her team got appreciations for arranging this wonderful session for faculty and students.
