Closing Ceremony of Calligraphy Painting Short Course

In a bid to promote and celebrate the artistic heritage of calligraphy, Assistant Librarian Naveed Siddique organized a one-month short course with the approval of professional development program committee at COMSATS University Lahore campus through the platform of Library Information Services. This course was designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of calligraphy painting, culminating in a final display to showcase the students' work. The closing ceremony began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, setting a reflective tone for the event. Following this, Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Head of Library Information Services, offered insightful reflections on the significance of calligraphy art. He praised the organizers and participants for their dedication and creativity. Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq then spoke about calligraphy’s role in fostering personal expression and artistic discipline, emphasizing its power to convey profound messages through elegant script. Their speeches enriched the event by highlighting calligraphy’s enduring relevance and its impact on cultural identity. At the end, Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq and Dr. Muhammad Tariq distributed the certificate among participants and the shield were also presented to Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq, Dr. Muhammad Tariq and Naveed Siddique, finally the guests and all the library staff toured the display by the student. Professional Training for Library Staff

The Library Information Services, CUI Lahore has organized two-days training/workshop entitled “Enhance your Professional Skills” on 20-21 August 2024. The purpose of this training was to enhance the professional skills of the library staff. All the library staff attended the training/workshop and learned the latest tools and technologies in librarianship. The contents of the training was KOHA, MS Office, Turnitin and Graphic Designing Tool. The library staff was the presenters for this two days training/workshop. In the introductory session, the head librarian, Dr. Muhammad Tariq highlighted the importance of professional learning. He said that we should be well-equipped with the latest information and knowledge about librarianship to meet the user's needs and requirements. Such activities provide opportunities for professional learning and enhancement. In the closing ceremony, the Director (A), Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq distributed the certificate among all participants and the presenters too. In her concluding remarks she appreciated the activity, organized by the library staff. She also shared that in an academic institute the library services can paly an important role in promoting reading and research activities. She also instructed that such type of training session should also be held in for the library staff in future.

Seerat Corner

The CUI Lahore library has established “Seerat Corner” in the main library. Worthy Rector, Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar along with Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, Naveed A Kahn, Dr. Rashid Khan and the library staff has inaugurated the Seerat Corner. The Seerat Corner will facilitate the Serah researchers, academician and students to know more about Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and his life. The Rector CUI Lahore has appreciated the effort to establish this corner in CUI Lahore Library.

Library Information Services CUI Lahore Shall remain closed from 17th to 21st June 2024 (Monday to Friday) on account of Eid-ul-Azha Holidays.

seminar titled "We and Our Environment"

In continuation of the "Awareness Campaign" by the Danish Society of Library Information Services, CUI Lahore, a seminar titled "We and Our Environment" was held on December 14, 2023. Prof. Syed Dr. Asad Hussain was the chief guest and Jawad Ahmad, Chairman Barabri Party, Singer, and Musician was the guest of honor. A good number of faculty and students participated in the seminar. The speakers highlighted the individual positive role in the sustainable environment. In the end, the certificates were distributed among all organizers and the winners of the drawing competition. The chief guest presented the shied to the guest of honor.

Green COMSATS

The Danish Society of Library Information Services organized an "Green COMSATS" awareness campaign. Different events like the Drawing competition, "Honor the Horticulturists' and a plantation drive were organized during December 11-14, 2023. In the seminar "Honor the Horticulturists", Dr. Musferah Mahfooz, HoD Humanities Department was the chief guest and Mr. Ashfiq Ali, the most senior mali of COMSATS was the guest of honor. The certificates were distributed among all the staff of the horticulture section of COMSATS. At the end of the seminar, the plantation derive was held by the COMSATS students.
